Protesters denouncing the election of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva as president are likely to continue blocking highways and key routes across Brazil through at least early November. Blockades have been reported in the Federal District and at least 18 states, including Amazonas, Acre, Bahia, Espirito Santo, Goias, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Para, Parana, Rio de Janeiro, Rondonia, Roraima, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Sao Paulo, Tocantins, and Maranhao; related protests and blockades of major thoroughfares may be reported in additional states over the coming days. Protesters have become increasingly disruptive, burning tires in addition to blocking traffic.

Officials are likely to deploy security personnel to all protest sites. Clashes between demonstrators and police are possible if protesters are overly disruptive or ignore official orders to disperse. Severe disruptions to intracity and intercity transport services are possible.
