Ghana: Authorities to implement mandatory COVID-19 testing for travelers from China from Jan. 6 /update 33
Ghana to require mandatory COVID-19 testing for travelers from China from Jan. 6. Other measures largely unchanged.
Event
Authorities in Ghana will toughen entry restrictions from Jan. 6, citing an increase in COVID-19 cases in China and other countries. All air travelers arriving from China will be required to present a negative PCR test result not older than 48 hours before departure and undergo another test on arrival in Ghana at no cost.
In addition, authorities will implement random testing upon arrival for all international travelers.
Other restrictions, including domestic measures, remain unchanged.
Domestic Measures
Churches, mosques, conferences, workshops, private parties and events, cinemas, theaters, sporting events, political gatherings, and funerals may operate at full capacity; participants must be fully vaccinated.
International Travel Restrictions
All arriving international passengers must complete a Health Declaration Form available by clicking here. Fully vaccinated travelers can enter without restriction, while unvaccinated Ghanaians and foreign residents must present a negative PCR test result not older than 48 hours and will be tested on arrival. Travelers must create an account on a dedicated website accessible by clicking here to upload a negative PCR test result or the vaccination certificate. Land and sea borders are opened to passenger traffic.
Advice
Follow all official instructions. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation. Consider delaying travel if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays. Ensure contingency plans account for further disruptive measures or extensions of current restrictions. Reconsider and reconfirm nonemergency health appointments. Plan for possible ground shipping and travel delays; seek alternative routes and shipping methods for time-sensitive cargo.
