Greece: Activists plan to protest in Athens March 23

Activists to protest at French Embassy in Athens, Greece, 18:30 March 23. Increased security, disruptions, and isolated clashes likely.

Informational

Event

The All-Workers Militant Front (PAME) trade union group plans to demonstrate outside the French Embassy building from 18:30 to show solidarity for ongoing strikes against pension reform in France. The number of participants remains unclear.

Additional police will deploy to monitor all demonstrations. Large crowds and associated security measures, including possible road closures and movement restrictions, will likely lead to business and transport disruptions in the surrounding area. Isolated clashes between activists and security services are likely, particularly if demonstrators attempt to breach any security cordons. Security forces may resort to tear gas or other riot control measures against unruly crowds. Bystanders are unlikely to be directly targeted in any violence but would face a significant indirect threat of physical harm.

Advice

Avoid the demonstration. Heed instructions from security services. Leave the area at the first sign of a security disturbance. Allow extra time for travel in the affected area the evening of March 23.
