Severe weather is forecast across multiple regions of Greece through at least early March 29. Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast across eastern, western, and northern regions on March 27, and further storms and showers may are expected across much of the country March 28-early March 29. Thunderstorms may be accompanied by strong wind gusts, lightning, and possible hail storms. Heavy downpours associated with the storms may trigger flooding in low-lying areas, and strong winds could cause property damage and power outages.
As of March 27, authorities have issued the following weather warnings across the country:
Orange heavy rainfall warnings (the middle level on a three-tier scale): Epirus and West Sterea regions
Yellow heavy rainfall warnings: Central, eastern, and western Macedonia, Ionian Islands, North East Aegean Islands, Thrace, and West Peloponnese regions
Yellow thunderstorm warnings: Central, eastern, and western Macedonia, Epirus, Ionian Islands, North East Aegean Islands, Thrace, West Peloponnese, and West Sterea regions
Yellow strong wind warnings: East Peloponnese and North East Aegean Islands regions
Authorities will likely issue new alerts or update/rescind existing advisories as weather conditions change over the coming days.
