Greece: Railway workers stage 24-hour strike March 2
Railway workers stage a 24-hour strike in Greece on March 2. Transport disruptions are likely.
Event
Railway workers affiliated with the Federation of Railway Employees (POS) are participating in a nationwide 24-hour strike on March 2. The action is to protest the government's alleged negligence that led to a fatal train collision on Feb. 28. All Hellenic Train services are suspended during the strike. The Athens Metro Workers Union also announced that lines 2 and 3 of the Metro would be closed for the strike period, but line 1 and the tram service will continue as normal.
Rail service disruptions will likely continue for the duration of the strike. Increased demand for alternative transport and increased road traffic congestion is likely.
Advice
Make alternative arrangements if traveling by rail in Greece on March 2. Confirm rail schedules before travel over the following days and plan for delays and disruptions to passenger and freight services. Follow local travel and security advice.
