Pakistan: Authorities impose increased security measures near court buildings in Islamabad March 2 in response to recent protest activity

Officials impose public gathering restrictions near court buildings in Islamabad, Pakistan, March 2 in response to recent protest activity.

Warning

Event

Authorities have implemented increased security measures near court buildings in Islamabad March 2. The measures are in response to recent protest activity and reports of vandalism amid an ongoing court hearing involving Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Officials have imposed Section 144 of the Penal Code until further notice. Under Section 144, public gatherings of more than five people are prohibited, as are the possession and use of fireworks.

Authorities will likely maintain a heightened security posture near the affected areas as a precaution. Authorities could order the use of additional measures, such as vehicular and pedestrian checks, depending on the severity of the perceived threat. Security measures may prompt associated localized transport and/or business disruptions. Additional demonstrations may occur despite the public gathering restrictions in place.

Advice

Exercise increased caution if operating in or near any court premises in Islamabad. Keep away from locations where security personnel appear to be deploying. Leave the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Plan accordingly for possible localized business and transport disruptions. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
