At least one resident has been hospitalized; authorities have not reported additional casualties. Armed confrontations between suspects and security forces are reportedly continuing in the area.

The operation may disrupt traffic in the affected area, including along Red Line Expressway (Linha Vermelha), which leads to Galeao Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport (GIG). Heightened security and disruptions are likely to continue through at least late May 16.
