Thunderstorms accompanied by heavy downpours, strong wind gusts, lightning, and possible hail storms are expected across the affected area. Heavy downpours associated may trigger flooding in low-lying areas, and strong winds could cause property damage and power outages.
As of early May 29, authorities have issued the following weather warnings across the country:
Orange thunderstorm warnings (the middle level on a three-tier scale): Central Greece, Central Macedonia, Thessaly, and Western Macedonia regions.
Yellow thunderstorm and rain warnings: across the rest of the affected area.
Authorities will likely issue new alerts or update/rescind existing advisories as weather conditions change over the coming days.
Hazardous Conditions
Sustained heavy rainfall could trigger flooding in low-lying communities near rivers, streams, and creeks.
