Indigenous groups are blocking Fernao Dias Federal Highway near Belo Horizonte early June 7. Protesters have gathered on KM 506 of the highway, near Sao Joaquim de Bicas, and are blocking traffic going to Belo Horizonte. The purpose of the protest is to condemn draft legislation that could limit indigenous peoples' land rights.

Protesters may also gather in other parts of Belo Horizonte as the Supreme Federal Court is due to vote on the controversial draft legislation on June 7. Environmental groups advocating for the preservation of indigenous territories may also join protesters.
