Germany: Pharmacists to strike nationwide and protest in Berlin, June 14

Pharmacists plan to strike across Germany and to protest in Berlin, June 14. Localized disruptions possible.

Informational

Event

The Federal Union of German Associations of Pharmacists and other groups plan to strike nationwide on June 14 to raise awareness of staff shortages and to denounce government policies. Pharmacies across Germany will remain closed all day. A demonstration will take place in central Berlin. Attendees will gather at the Federal Ministry of Health from 12:00 and then march to the Federal Ministry of Finance at Invalidenplatz. The protest is scheduled to end at 14:00. A second demonstration is planned for Burgplatz in Dusseldorf at 12:00. Further protests are possible in other urban centers.

The pharmacists' actions will likely prompt reduced prescription and medication access. The protests and associated police presence may cause localized traffic disruptions.

Advice

Ensure sufficient supplies of prescriptions and emergency medication to cover the period of the pharmacy closures. Avoid all protest sites if possible. Check for disruptions before beginning journeys and plan alternative routes if necessary. Heed instructions from security services.
