Increased security, as well as localized traffic and business disruptions, are likely in Athens, Patras, Thessaloniki, and Kalamata through the evening of June 15 due to protest activity. Several activist groups and labor organizations are staging rallies and marches in the four cities to condemn what they allege is the government's complicity in the June 14 shipwreck off Pylos, which left at least 79 migrants dead.

The following specific demonstrations are taking place:

  • Athens: A march from the Propylaia to the Parliament building starting at 18:00, with a subsequent rally at Syntagma Square that began at 20:00;

  • Patras: A rally at Agios Georgios Square starting at 19:00;

  • Kalamata: Rally at the fountain along Aristomenous Street starting at 20:00;

  • Thessaloniki: March through the city center starting from Kamara Square at 19:00; the exact route not announced.

Authorities have reportedly deployed an increased police presence to monitor the demonstrations as a precaution.
