Heightened security is likely around Bariire, Lower Shabelle Region, over the coming hours after bomb explosions killed at least five people in the area June 24. The first blast occurred when a motor vehicle reportedly hit an explosive device on a local road; reports variously indicate that one or two additional explosions subsequently targeted individuals who rushed to the site of the initial blast. Although no group immediately claimed responsibility for the explosions, Al-Shabaab militants often target security forces and civilians in bomb attacks and are probably behind the incident.
