Brazil: Lingering rail disruptions likely in Rio de Janeiro as of the evening of July 21 after power outages cause train station closures
Lingering rail disruptions likely in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as of the evening of July 21 after blackout prompts train station closures.
Event
Lingering rail disruptions are likely throughout Rio de Janeiro until at least early July 22 after a power outage forced several stations to close. Over 30 train stations on the Gramacho-Saracuruna line were closed due to an alleged theft of a feeder cable, which caused a power blackout on July 20. Power was reportedly restored as of 18:10 on July 21. However, reports indicate train travel on some lines, including Saracuruna to Central and the Vila Inhomirim and Guapimirim extensions, remain suspended.
Rail delays are likely to continue over the coming hours. Cancelations are possible as operators reposition rolling stock and work through passenger backlogs.
Advice
Plan for local transit disruptions. Confirm rail services through at least early July 22.
