Brazil: Unionized civil police officers plan to protest in Recife July 18

Unionized civil police officers plan to protest in central Recife from 15:00 July 18. Localized disruptions likely.

Informational

Event

Civil police officers affiliated with the Civil Police Union of Pernambuco (Sindicato dos Policiais Civis de Pernambuco, SINPOL-PE) have announced a march in central Recife on July 18 to denounce low wages and other grievances. Participants will gather from 15:00 outside the SINPOL-PE office located on Rua Frei Cassimiro and march to Palacio do Campo das Princesas on Praca da Republica.

Localized traffic disruptions and increased security are likely during the march. Some public security services may be limited due to the action. However, the civil police are primarily responsible for criminal investigations and forensics; therefore, their protest is unlikely to significantly reduce the number of police patrols, or slow law enforcement response times for routine or emergency calls, which are primarily handled by uniformed military and municipal police forces.

Advice

Avoid the protest. Plan for extra travel time near the affected area. Heed instructions from authorities.
