Severe weather is forecast across northwestern Greece through at least July 6. Thunderstorms accompanied by heavy downpours, strong wind gusts, lightning, and possible hail storms are forecast. Heavy downpours associated with the storms may trigger flooding in low-lying areas, and strong winds could cause property damage and power outages.
As of early July 5, authorities have issued the following weather warnings across the country:
Orange heavy rainfall and thunderstorm warnings (the middle level on a three-tier scale): Central Macedonia, Epirus, Thessaly, and Western Macedonia regions.
Yellow heavy rainfall and thunderstorm warnings: the rest of the affected area.
Authorities will likely issue new alerts or update/rescind existing advisories as weather conditions change over the coming days.
Hazardous Conditions
Sustained heavy rainfall could trigger flooding in low-lying communities near rivers, streams, and creeks.
