Authorities are disposing of an unexploded World War II-era bomb in Cologne's Bayenthal neighborhood on Aug. 1. The device was uncovered during construction work at Bonner Strasse 211, north of the intersection with Schoenhauser Strasse. A mandatory evacuation zone is in force extending for a radius of about 300 meters (328 yards) around the location of the bomb. Authorities have given no indication of how long the operation will last.

Road closures and localized traffic disruptions are likely within the affected area until disposal technicians complete their work.
