Police are clashing with protesting labor union members of the Adani Gangavaram Port in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, the afternoon of Aug. 17. Security personnel have erected barricades and are blocking a planned siege of the port by activists demanding reinstation of laid-off employees and wage hikes for contract workers. Initial reports indicate at least ten police officers and multiple demonstrators are injured. Although port operations are unaffected, limited disruptions to facilitate a security response are possible.
Heightened security posture and localized traffic disruptions are almost certain in the coming hours. Additional clashes cannot be ruled out.
