Public sector workers affiliated with the Confederation of Public Workers' Unions (Kamu Emekcileri Sendikalari Konfederasyonu, KESK) plan to stage a one-day strike in cities across Turkiye on Aug. 16. The purpose of the action is to demand a new collective bargaining agreement that includes a series of provisions for higher pay and increased benefits.
Unless averted, the work stoppage will likely prompt significant disruptions to a number of public services in the administration, transportation, education, and healthcare sectors, among others. Although labor leaders have announced no specific plans for such gatherings, participating workers will probably stage street protests and pickets as part of their strike.
