Uganda: Increased security reported at Uganda Muslim Supreme Council Headquarters in Kampala Nov. 24

Security forces deployed at Uganda Muslim Supreme Council Headquarters in Kampala, Uganda, Nov. 24. Localized disruptions likely.

Informational

Officials deployed additional security forces at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council Headquarters in the city center of Kampala on Nov. 24. This follows threats of protest by Muslim believers over the sale of religious properties. Police and military forces are stopping and searching individuals wishing to enter the building. A press conference over the issue is planned at 16:00 at the Gaddafi National Mosque located within the complex.

The heightened security presence is likely causing localized traffic disruptions on surrounding roads that may persist through at least late Nov. 24. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the vicinity of the affected area on Nov. 24. Allow extra time for road travel in Kampala city center. Leave the area immediately at the first sign of any security disturbances. Heed instructions from authorities.
