Investigations ongoing after Argentinian national killed in Buzios, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, as of Dec. 8.
Brazilian authorities are investigating the murder of an Argentinian national in Armacao dos Buzios, Rio de Janeiro State, as of Dec. 8. The victim was reportedly fatally stabbed when walking her dog on a trail near Jose Goncalves beach in southern Buzios on Dec. 6. A 32-year old male suspect was arrested; however, the motive for the attack remains unclear at this time.
Crime overall remains high in Brazil. The incident does not indicate a broader increase in the threat of crime to foreign nationals in the country. However, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, a popular tourist destination, homicide rates have been rising in 2023 in comparison to 2022.
