Unionized taxi drivers plan to conduct strikes across Greece until at least 05:00 Dec. 8. Increased demand for alternative transport likely.

Informational

The Panhellenic Federation of Taxis and Merchants has called on unionized taxi drivers to hold a series of strikes across Greece until at least 05:00 Dec. 8. The purpose of the planned work stoppages is to protest a tax bill. Taxi drivers in Thessaloniki will reportedly be on strike until 05:00 Dec. 8. The Attica Taxi Drivers' Union (SATA) has also announced that affiliated taxi drivers in Athens will strike Dec. 5-6; the group may stage an additional labor action from Dec. 7. Taxi drivers in other locations across Greece may take industrial action, as well.

The strikes will likely result in reduced taxi availability and increased demand for alternative modes of transport. Striking taxi drivers may stage protests. Security services may deploy to monitor any demonstrations that materialize.

Confirm all taxi reservations through Dec. 8; arrange alternative modes of transport well in advance of intended travel. Allow additional time to reach destinations during the strike period. Avoid any demonstrations that materialize as a routine precaution. Heed all official directives. Disruptions may continue for several hours after the strikes officially end.
