Unionized workers plan to hold two protests in central Athens Dec. 6. Activists affiliated with several unions plan to demonstrate at the Ministry of Finance (Panepistimiou 37) from 12:30 to demand salary increases, among other concessions. Separately, workers affiliated with the Federation of Industrial Unions of Attica (OBSA) plan to demonstrate at Syntagma Square from 18:00 to denounce proposed tax reforms. The number of demonstrators that may attend the gatherings was not immediately clear.
Heightened security and transport disruptions are likely near the demonstrations. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the protests as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the affected areas on Dec. 6. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
