Netherlands: Flight disruptions ongoing at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol Dec. 21 due to severe weather
Flight disruptions ongoing at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Netherlands, Dec. 21 due to severe weather. Reconfirm flights.
Flight disruptions are ongoing at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) Dec. 21 due to severe winter weather. More than 200 flights were canceled in advance due to the anticipated arrival of a storm system named Pia and several other flights have been canceled and more than 150 others delayed early Dec. 21. The Netherlands Royal Institute of Meteorology (KNMI) has issued yellow strong wind warnings (the lowest level on a three-tier scale) across country Dec. 21 due to Storm Pia, with winds gusting up to 90 kph (56 mph) expected in coastal regions and up to 110 kph (68 mph) on the north coast. Conditions are not expected to improve until early Dec. 22 and further flight cancelations and delays are likely over the coming hours.
It is unclear when flights will normalize, and once they do lingering disruptions are likely as authorities clear the backlog of flights; further associated disruptions are likely through at least Dec. 22.
Plan for delays if scheduled to transit AMS Dec. 21-22. Reconfirm the status of flights before travel.
