Ecuador: Major security operation underway in Guayaquil Jan. 9 after hostage situation

A major security operation is underway as of the afternoon of Jan. 9 following a hostage situation at the TC Television studios located at the intersection of Avenida de las Americas and Calle Joaquin Jose Oreantia Gonzalez in Guayaquil. The site is adjacent to the Jose Joaquin de Olmedo International Airport (GYE) and the Simon Bolivar Convention Center. A group of criminals entered the studios, held employees at gunpoint, and displayed explosive devices. Police said that gunmen stormed the TC television station earlier in the afternoon; thirteen individuals were apprehended in connection to the incident.
