Greece: Agriculturalists plan protest convoys converging on Heraklion, on Crete, Feb. 1
Agriculturalists plan protest convoys converging on Heraklion, on Crete, Greece, Feb. 1. Heightened security, disruptions likely.
Agricultural workers plan to conduct two related protest convoys that will converge on Heraklion Feb. 1. The purpose of the action is to demand state assistance to combat rising production costs and improved working conditions. The convoys will act on the following schedule:
Convoy 1: Gather at the junction of Mournies and National Highway 90 south of Chania at 08:30.
Convoy 2: Gather at Pancretan Stadium in Heraklion at 10:30.
Both convoys will combine for a rally at Eleftherias Square in the afternoon; the start time is unclear.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near rally sites and along convoy routes. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers or frustrated motorists cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the rally areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling on highways around Heraklion or between Chania and Heraklion. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
