Armenia: Activists to conduct two demonstrations in Yerevan Feb. 20
Activists to hold rallies at Yerablur Cemetary and Freedom Square in Yerevan, Armenia, Feb. 20. Heightened security likely.
Activists plan to hold rallies at two locations in Yerevan on Feb. 20. The purpose of the demonstrations is to commemorate the anniversary of Nagorno-Karabakh's declaration of independence from Azerbaijan, as well as to call for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's resignation. Participants will first rally at Yerablur Cemetary from 12:00 to pay their respects to casualties of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict. Attendees may march to Yerablur Cemetary from surrounding areas. Participants will then rally at Freedom Square from 16:30.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely at both rally sites, but particularly at Freedom Square starting in the early afternoon. Clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.
Avoid all protests as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near Yerablur Cemetary around noon or Freedom Square in the afternoon and evening. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
