Authorities to dispose of WWII bombs in Hanau, Germany, Feb. 25. Evacuations, road closures, rail disruptions, heightened security planned.

Warning

Authorities plan to defuse two WWII bombs near the intersection of Wilhelm-Rohn-Strasse and Rodenbacher Weg in Hanau Feb. 25. Officials will implement an evacuation area with a radius of 500 meters (547 yards) around the operation site from 08:00; the evacuation orders will reportedly impact nearly 5,000 local residents. The bomb disposal operation is scheduled to begin at 11:00. The Hanau-Friedberg railway line will experience disruptions from 11:00. Officials did not immediately provide an estimated time at which the bomb disposal operation would conclude.

Road closures, rail transport disruptions, and heightened security will last until authorities give the all-clear and may continue for several hours after the operation is complete. Traffic disruptions are likely in areas near the evacuation zone throughout the day.

Avoid the affected area. Consider alternatives to rail travel on the Hanau-Friedberg line through Hanau, particularly in the late morning and early afternoon hours. Strictly heed all instructions from authorities.
