Germany: Demonstrations marking anniversary of mass shooting reported in Berlin Feb. 19

Rallies marking fourth anniversary of Hanau attack occurring across Berlin, Germany, Feb. 19. Transport disruptions reported.

Activists are holding several commemorative rallies across Berlin on Feb. 19 to mark the fourth anniversary of the Hanau attack. Police reported at least 1,000 people are participating in a rally at Siegfried-Aufhauser-Platz as of the evening of Feb. 19; the demonstration is registered to end at 22:00. A related demonstration is also underway at Oranienplatz and is scheduled to end at 21:00.

Localized transport disruptions were reported near the Siegried-Aufhauser-Platz demonstration. Heightened security is likely near both demonstrations. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Avoid all demonstrations as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near Siegfried-Aufhauser-Platz or Oranienplatz. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
