Ireland: Farmers likely to protest nationwide until early February

Farmers likely to protest across Ireland through at least early February.

Warning

Unionized farmers will likely protest in locations across Ireland through at least early February to denounce EU agricultural regulations. On the late evening of Feb. 1, Farmers launched a tractor convoy towards Dublin and several other areas of the country, including Donegal County, prompting transport disruptions. The move comes in solidarity with farmers in other EU countries. Additional protests will likely include convoys of slow-moving agricultural vehicles on rural highways and city centers, blockades of bridges and busy intersections, and demonstrations outside government offices.

Heightened security is likely near all demonstrations. Transport disruptions will likely occur throughout the day in areas targeted by protesters. Road travel disruptions are possible at short notice on major highways throughout the country and highways entering affected cities on protest days as slow-moving tractors make their way to rally sites. While widespread violence is not anticipated, low-level scuffles between police and protesters are possible.

Avoid the demonstration areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near a protest or on major roadways into affected cities. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
