Greece: Activists to demonstrate in Thessaloniki on March 7 and in Athens on March 8
Education activists in Greece to protest at the Arch of Galerius in Thessaloniki on March 7 and at Propylaia in Athens on March 8.
Education activists plan to protest in Thessaloniki on March 7 and in Athens on March 8. The purpose of the demonstrations is to denounce legislation to establish private universities. Participants will block several entrances to Aristotle University of Thessaloniki before marching to and protesting at the Arch of Galerius (Kamara) in Thessaloniki from 12:00 March 7. On March 8, activists will rally at Propylaia in Athens from 12:00. Demonstrators may march through nearby streets before and after each event. It is unknown how many participants may attend.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near both protests. Clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the Arch of Galerius in Thessaloniki on March 7 and the Propylaia area in Athens on March 8 as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near demonstration areas. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
