Argentina: Education workers plan to strike nationwide April 4

Unionized education workers plan to hold a 24-hour nationwide strike in Argentina on April 4. Associated protests likely.

Warning

Unionized education workers affiliated with the Confederation of Education Workers (Confederacion de Trabajadores de la Educacion, CTERA) plan to hold a 24-hour nationwide strike in Argentina on April 4. The purpose of the action is to denounce the elimination of a supplemented teachers' salary fund and demand contract negotiations with national authorities.

In addition to the strike, activists in Buenos Aires plan to march to Congress. Participants will meet at the intersection of Rivadavia and Rincon streets at 10:30 before marching to the National Congress. Other unions plan to participate in this demonstration. In Neuquen, a demonstration will be starting at 11:00 at the Monument to San Martin.

Protests by striking teachers are likely in other locations; these can occur near government buildings, central squares, education centers, and major roads. Disruptions are likely due to the strike, especially where protests materialize. Heightened security near government buildings is likely.

Avoid all protests as a precaution. Confirm appointments in advance, as some businesses and government offices may have limited services due to the closure of schools.
