Argentina: Government workers plan to hold a nationwide strike April 5

Unionized government workers to hold a nationwide 24-hour strike in Argentina April 5. Protest planned in Buenos Aires.

Warning

Unionized government workers, affiliated with the Association of State Workers (Asociacion de Trabajadores del Estado, ATE), plan to hold a 24-hour nationwide strike on April 5, to denounce the dismissal of thousands of public workers in recent weeks. Activists demand the national government to reinstate all those who have been fired, and an increase in salaries for public workers.

Additionally, ATE members intend to demonstrate outside the offices of the Economy Ministry in downtown Buenos Aires, starting at 13:00. Protests in other cities are likely but have not been confirmed; these are likely to occur near government buildings.

The strike is likely to impact some government services nationwide; public offices may be closed or have limited operations. Clashes and disruptions near government buildings are possible. Heightened security is also likely.

Avoid all protests as a precaution. Confirm government appointments April 5.
