Warning

Explosives ordnance disposal teams are conducting an explosive ordnance disposal operation in Amberg as of late April 3 after two WWII-era aerial bombs were discovered in the Luitpoldhohe area earlier in the day. The unexploded bombs, weighing 500 kg (1,100 lb) and 250 kg (550 lb), respectively, were found during construction work in the Neumuhlerstrasse area. Local officials have established a security cordon and will evacuate buildings within a 500 meters (550 yards) radius of the operation. Around 700 individuals and multiple businesses are affected by the order. Officials have reported that the rail route between Sulzbach-Rosenberg and Amberg remains closed, though a replacement bus service between Neukirchen, near Sulzbach-Rosenberg, and Amberg has been set up. Authorities did not give an estimate of when the operation will conclude.

Officials will maintain a heightened security presence in the affected area until the disposal operation is complete. Crews will likely close roads in the affected area during the operation, causing localized traffic and business disruptions.

Avoid the affected area until authorities give the all-clear. Check for transport disruptions before beginning journeys and allow extra time for travel. Heed all instructions issued by local officials.
