Uganda: Hospital workers protest in Jinja April 15

Hospital staff protest at Jinja Regional Referral Hospital in Jinja, Uganda, April 15. Heightened security and localized disruptions likely.

Warning

Hospital staff are protesting outside of the Jinja Regional Referral Hospital April 15 amid a heightened police presence. Police officers reportedly used tear gas in an attempt to disperse the crowd. Staff claim that hospital land is being illegally allocated for a cemetery and they will not return to work until the city administration intervenes.

Increased security and localized business and transportation disruptions are likely in the area. Disruptions to medical services are also likely through at least April 15. Clashes between protesters and police are possible.

Avoid the vicinity of the protest site to mitigate potential disruptions. If violence breaks out, leave the area immediately, and take shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Confirm medical appointments April 15.
