Netherlands: Environmental activists to protest in Zuidas, Amsterdam, May 31
Climate activist groups to protest in Zuidas area of Amsterdam, Netherlands, May 31. Increased security, localized disruptions likely.
Environmental activist groups, including Extinction Rebellion and Fridays for Future, will demonstrate in the Zuidas area of Amsterdam on May 31. Climate activists will denounce the financing of the fossil fuel industry. Participants will gather in Gustav Mahler Square at 14:00. Attendance could reach the low thousands. Although a march through the area has not been announced, impromptu processions, road blockades, and other acts of civil disobedience cannot be ruled out.
Police will almost certainly deploy to the area to monitor the gathering and mitigate disruptions that may arise due to unplanned acts of civil disobedience. Large crowds and associated security measures will likely prompt localized disruptions. While widespread violence is not anticipated, isolated scuffles between police and protesters are possible.
Avoid the planned demonstration and related protest actions as a routine security precaution and to mitigate associated disruptions. Allow extra time to reach destinations in protest-affected areas. Leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation. Heed instructions from authorities.
