Bangladesh: Communist Party of Bangladesh to hold nationwide protests on June 26

Communist Party of Bangladesh to protest across Bangladesh, June 26. Increased security, transport disruptions likely. Clashes possible.

Warning

The Communist Party of Bangladesh plans to hold nationwide protests on June 26 to demand various political concessions, including uprooting corruption and changing the political system. As part of the demonstration, a rally will occur at the Pura Paltan area in Dhaka from 16:30 June 26. Although further details regarding additional gathering locations are currently unavailable, potential rally sites include political party offices, police stations, government buildings, press clubs, public parks, and thoroughfares. The highest participation rate is likely in urban centers with the largest political support, such as Chattogram, Dhaka, and Khulna.

Authorities will almost certainly monitor any such gatherings and could use force, including tear gas, to disperse crowds. Enhanced security restrictions, including road blockades, could occur. Clashes between police and activists, as well as between members of opposing groups, are possible. Associated localized transport and business disruptions are likely.

Avoid all demonstrations due to the increased potential for violence. Depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Allow additional travel time near gathering sites. Plan accordingly for possible localized business disruptions. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
