Police operation ongoing in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on June 28. Ground transport disruptions possible.

Authorities are reportedly conducting a security operation in the Complexo da Penha and Complexo do Alemao areas in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro early on June 28. Armed clashes are being reported, and suspects have blocked several roads in the area with burning debris. At least one person has been injured near the Vila Cruzeiro area. Schools in the Complexo da Penha area have canceled classes on June 28, and public transport services are circumventing the affected areas.

Heightened security and disruptions to business and traffic are likely in the affected areas through at least late June 28. Transport disruptions, including along the Red Line Expressway (Linha Vermelha), which leads to Rio de Janeiro/Galeao - Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport (GIG), cannot be ruled out.

Strictly heed instructions from authorities. Avoid traveling to or through the affected areas of Rio de Janeiro. If within or near the affected areas, remain in accommodations until police give the all-clear.
