Warning

Authorities are conducting a WWII bomb disposal operation near Terminal 3 of Frankfurt Airport (FRA) as of late afternoon June 7. Construction workers reportedly discovered a phosphorus bomb during work near Terminal 3, which had been closed to be rebuilt. Authorities have implemented a 1,000-meter (3,281-foot) exclusion area around the site and temporarily closed two runways; flight disruptions, including delays, are likely. Officials also closed the A5 highway between the intersection with the A3 and the 486 in both directions. The operation is expected to last until at least 21:00.

Heightened security and road closures will continue until authorities give the all-clear. Once the two affected runways are closed, air travel disruptions at FRA will likely last through late June 7. Due to the A5 closure, increased traffic is likely around FRA.

Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time for planned travel via FRA. Allow additional time to reach FRA. Strictly heed all instructions from authorities.
