Informational

Unionized medical workers plan to strike and protest across Greece June 26-27. Unionized medical workers employed by the Hellenic National Public Health Organization (EODY) plan to strike June 26-27. The purpose of the labor action is to denounce the planned dismissal of contracted workers. Participants will also gather for a central protest at the Ministry of Health (Ypourgeio Ygeias) on Aristotelous in Athens from 12:30 June 27.

Public hospital workers affiliated with the Pan-Hellenic Federation of Public Hospital Workers (POEDEN) will demonstrate at hospitals and Ministry of Health buildings nationwide. Additionally, a central protest march is planned in Athens, where participants will gather at the Ministry of Labor and Finance on Stadiou at 10:30 June 27 before marching to the Ministry of Finance on Karagiorgi Servias. The purpose of the work stoppage is to demand salary increases and measures to address work-related health hazards. Strike participants will also conduct a nationwide walkout from 10:00-15:00.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely at all protest sites nationwide, and will likely be most severe near the Athens protest march. Medical service disruptions are likely nationwide. Confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Reconfirm all medical appointments at public and private clinics and hospitals during the strike period. Avoid all demonstrations as a standard precaution. Strictly heed instructions from authorities. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
