Greece: Unionized educators to demonstrate in Athens June 21

Unionized educators to protest on El. Venizolou in Piraeus, Athens, Greece, from 13:00 June 21. Heightened security likely.

Informational

Unionized educators affiliated with the Greek Federation of Secondary Education State School Teachers (OLME, also known as ELME) plan to protest at the Directorate of Secondary Education (Dieythynei Deyterovathmias Ekpaideysis) on El. Venizelou in Piraeus, Athens, from 13:00 June 21. The purpose of the demonstration is to denounce alleged targeted prosecutions of union-related protest participants. It is not immediately clear how many participants may attend.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest site. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the protest area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the protest site. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
