Netherlands: Anti-government protest planned in The Hague July 2
Activists to hold anti-government protest in The Hague, Netherlands, 10:00 July 2. Increased security, localized disruptions likely.
Civil society groups and activists will stage an anti-government demonstration in The Hague on July 2. The demonstration organizer, former MP Nilufer Gundogan, is calling on the new coalition government to respect the rule of law. Participants will gather on Laan van Reagan en Gorbatsjov at 10:00, before marching to the Royal Palace and the Temporary House of Representatives of the States General (Tweede Kamer), which are both located on Bezuidenhoutseweg. A few thousand people may attend the event. The demonstration is scheduled to coincide with the swearing-in of the coalition government's cabinet, which will take place at Tweede Kamer and the Royal Palace.
Additional police will almost certainly be deployed to monitor and facilitate the demonstration. Given the proximity of the anti-government action to official buildings and events, associated security measures may prompt significant localized disruptions. While widespread violence is not anticipated, scuffles between police and protesters cannot be ruled out; some arrests may take place.
Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near protest sites. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
