Uganda: City cleaners protest outside Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) June 4

City cleaners protest outside the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) in Kampala, Uganda, June 4. Tight security and disruptions likely.

Warning

City cleaners in Kampala are gathering outside the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) on June 4 to protest unpaid salaries. The workers claim that the KCCA has delayed paying salaries over the past four to six months. As a precaution, additional police officers are being deployed around the KCCA.

Over the coming hours, increased security and localized traffic disruptions are likely in the vicinity of the KCCA and other parts of the city center. Clashes between security forces and protesters cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the vicinity of the KCCA to mitigate potential disruptions. If violence breaks out, leave the area immediately, and take shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building.
