Argentina: Unionized Aerolineas Argentinas pilots plan to strike, protest in Buenos Aires starting July 12 to demand higher pay

Aerolineas Argentinas pilots plan to strike, protest at airports in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from July 12. Flight disruptions likely.

Warning

Unionized pilots flying for Aerolineas Argentinas (AR) affiliated with the Airline Pilots Association (Asociacion de Pilotos de Linea Aereas, APLA) plan to strike and stage demonstrations at the two commercial airports of Buenos Aires on July 12 as part of efforts to demand a pay increase. The duration of the APLA's strike activity remains unclear. A demonstration at Jorge Newbery Airfield (AEP) will start at 06:00; a second demonstration will start at 21:30 at Ministro Pistarini International Airport (EZE). Further industrial action is possible in the days following July 12.

The strike and protests are likely to prompt flight delays and cancellations on Aerolineas Argentinas flights transiting through Buenos Aires on July 12 and the days following. AR could announce preemptive flight cancellations and delays over the coming days. Flight disruptions will probably extend for several hours beyond any industrial action as the company repositions aircraft and works through its passenger backlog.

Confirm all travel arrangements if booked to fly Aerolineas Argentinas from July 12. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Arrive early at the airport to allow additional time for processing. Avoid the protests. Heed instructions from authorities.
