Informational

Activists affiliated with several organizations, including the Unified Workers' Central (Central Unica dos Trabalhadores, CUT), plan to demonstrate in several urban centers July 30 to protest interest rates. The largest gathering will likely occur in Sao Paulo, where participants plan to rally outside the Central Bank on Avenida Paulista from 10:00. Protesters also plan to gather outside the Central Bank's headquarters in Brasilia's Asa Norte area; the start time of the protest is unconfirmed.

Organizers have also announced actions in the following locations and times:

  • Belo Horizonte: Central Bank on Avenida Alvares Cabral from 10:00

  • Curitiba: Praca Santos Andrade from 10:00

  • Porto Alegre: Rua Sete de Setembro from 10:00

  • Rio de Janeiro: Boulevard Carioca from 11:00

  • Salvador: Bradesco Bank in Center Lapa Shopping Center from 09:00

Demonstrators may gather in other cities the same day. Localized transport and business disruptions are likely near protests, especially in Sao Paulo. Authorities will likely deploy an increased police presence to monitor gatherings. The demonstrations will likely pass peacefully; however, minor skirmishes remain possible.

Avoid all protests as a precaution. Heed all official directives. Leave the area at the first sign of a security disturbance. Allow additional time for journeys in affected areas.
