Police operation ongoing in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on July 31. Ground transport disruptions possible.
Authorities are conducting a security operation in several areas in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro early on July 9. The operation is reportedly affecting the Quitungo, Guapore, and Tinta areas; armed clashes have been reported. Authorities have not confirmed any casualties or arrests at this time. Public transport disruptions in and around the affected areas are likely; schools may also postpone or cancel activities July 31.
Heightened security and disruptions to business and traffic are likely in the affected areas through at least late July 31. Transport disruptions, including along the Red Line Expressway (Linha Vermelha), cannot be ruled out. Suspects may set up barricades in the area to disrupt police operations.
Strictly heed instructions from authorities. Avoid traveling to or through the affected areas of Rio de Janeiro. If within or near the affected areas, remain in accommodations until police give the all-clear.
