Brazil: Workers of regulatory agencies staging strike July 31-Aug. 1
Unionized workers of several Brazilian regulatory agencies staging strike July 31-Aug. 1. Disruptions to certain services likely.
Workers affiliated with the National Union of Employees of National Regulatory Agencies (Sindicato Nacional dos Servidores das Agencias Nacionais de Regulacao, SINAGENCIAS) are staging a strike July 31-Aug. 1. The action could result in some delays in cargo clearance at ports and airports, as well as disruptions to services provided by state regulatory authorities; these include the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA), National Waterway Transportation Agency (ANTAQ), and National Land Transportation Agency (ANTT). The state agencies have been unable to determine the extent to which the strike could impact operations as the number of workers who will participate in the strike remains unclear. The workers will be making several labor-related demands, including regarding salaries.
The strike can cause delays and disruptions to several services from the impacted regulatory agencies, such as control and inspection services at ports and airports; road travel could also be impacted. Participants may also stage protests associated with the strike, especially outside government buildings.
Reconfirm transportation arrangements July 31-Aug. 1. Allow extra time for cargo clearance and other services provided by regulatory agencies. As a standard precaution, avoid all protests. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
