Police and firefighters are responding to a fire at a makeshift camp for irregular immigrants in Coolock, north Dublin, on July 15. The fire appears to have been started amid a small, unauthorized protest denouncing the camp. Police have closed Malahide Road in both directions to facilitate fire extinguishing operations. A number of protesters continue to face off with police.
Additional police will likely remain in the area over the coming hours to prevent further protest incidents and allow firefighters to extinguish the blaze. Localized travel and business disruptions will likely persist through at least the early afternoon. While violence has not been reported, both violence and arrests remain possible.
