Mexico: Unionized teachers staging protest march in downtown Mexico City July 3

Unionized teachers marching in central Mexico City, Mexico, July 3. Tight security, localized transport and business disruptions likely.

Warning

Members of the National Union of Education Workers have gathered in downtown Mexico City for a protest march on July 3. The action is to demand improved salaries and decreased working hours. Participants have gathered at Monumento a la Revolucion and will soon march towards the Zocalo. Several hundred participants are attending.

Although the action should remain largely peaceful, authorities will probably maintain an increased security presence near the march as a precaution. Transport and business disruptions will likely be along the march route for the duration of the demonstration.

Avoid the demonstration as a precaution. Seek alternative routes to circumvent the protest march and any related disruptions. Allow additional time to reach destinations if operating near the impacted area. Heed the instructions of authorities.
