Argentina: Unionized Aerolineas Argentinas pilots plan to strike, protest at four airports nationwide, Aug. 19-30
Aerolineas Argentinas pilots schedule protests, strikes at four airports across Argentina, Aug. 19-30. Flight disruptions likely.
Unionized pilots flying for Aerolineas Argentinas (AR) affiliated with the Airline Pilots Association (Asociacion de Pilotos de Linea Aereas, APLA) plan to strike and stage demonstrations at four commercial airports across Argentina on separate days Aug. 19-30. The demonstrations are being held to demand a pay increase.
Pilots will assemble at Jorge Newberry Airfield (AEP), Ezeiza International Airport (EZE), Aeronautico Ambrosio L.V. Taravella International Airport (COR), and Governor Francisco Gabrielli International Airport (MDZ) as scheduled:
Aug. 19: Pilots to assemble at AEP 09:00-11:30.
Aug. 22: Pilots to assemble at EZE from 21:00; duration unclear.
Aug. 27: Pilots to hold simultaneous meetings at COR and MDZ 10:00-13:00.
Aug. 28: Pilots to assemble at EZE from 21:00; duration unclear.
Aug. 30: Pilots to assemble at AEP 06:00-09:00.
The strike and protests will likely prompt flight delays and cancellations on Aerolineas Argentinas flights transiting through Argentina on days when protests are planned. Additional unscheduled protests and strikes may be held on days between planned assemblies. Flight disruptions will probably extend for several hours beyond any industrial action as the company repositions aircraft and works through its passenger backlog. While the gatherings are likely to be peaceful, heightened security and localized transport disruptions are possible near any demonstrations at affected airports.
Confirm all travel arrangements if booked to fly Aerolineas Argentinas Aug. 19-30. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Arrive early at the airport to allow additional time for processing. Avoid the protests at affected airports. Heed instructions from authorities.
