Armenia: Activists will demonstrate in Yerevan Aug. 12 to mark International Youth Day

Youth activists will demonstrate in Yerevan, Armenia, 18:00 Aug. 12. Increased security, localized disruptions likely.

Informational

Activists will hold a demonstration in Yerevan from 18:00 on Aug. 12 to mark International Youth Day. Participants will gather at the Matenadaran Museum before marching to Saint Anna Church on Abovyan Street for a rally. Attendance levels are unclear, but the march is reportedly affiliated with the "Tavush for the Motherland" activist group, which often stages street gatherings featuring several hundred participants.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely along the demonstration route. While violence is not anticipated, the Tavush for the Motherland group has previously attempted to blockade main roads, which would increase the threat of confrontations with police.

Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the demonstration. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
